I spent a large part of my life at the unit, learning a variety of different skills. Woodwork: This involved working with machinery including, power saws, drills, and wood turning equipment. Metalwork: This involved working with machinery including, power saws, drills, metal turning, welding and a small element of design work helping to design and make jigs in order that other disabled people in the unit could also work. Hobbies and Activities: From 1983 to 1990 I was part of The British Paralympics Team, competing in two Paralympics in New York 1984 and in Seoul Korea 1988. My event was The Electric Wheelchair Slalom. I took the bronze in New York and achieved silver in Korea. I also helped Newton Products design my racing electric wheelchair. The chair became one of Newton Products best sellers, and is well known as The Badger Powered Wheelchair. I also ran a mobile disco from 1974 to 1987 working three or four nights a week playing at local pubs, clubs and private parties in and around Buxton. I enjoy music, films and home computing.
